What is conversion tracking?
Conversion tracking is telling an ad platform that something worth paying for happened, so it can credit the ad and find more of it. The question for a gym is what counts: form, booking, show or payment.

Conversion tracking for gyms
Every ad platform asks you to define a conversion. Whatever you choose becomes the thing it reports on, credits itself for and, most importantly, optimizes toward. Google and Meta both make the form fill the easy default, because it happens on your website where their tag can see it, and because it happens often enough to give their systems something to learn from.
For a gym that default is the trap. A form fill is the first and weakest stage in a chain that runs enquiry, booked, showed, paid. Optimize for forms and you get forms. The stages that fill the gym happen at the front desk and in the billing system, off the website, where a browser tag cannot follow.
So the plan is to decide what a conversion means at your gym and track that. At minimum: the booking, the show and the first payment, each as its own event, so the platform can be told the difference between them. The mechanics differ by platform: Google uses conversion actions fed by a tag or by offline conversion tracking; Meta uses the pixel for on-site events and the Conversions API for everything else.
Where it misleads: a conversion count is only as honest as the event behind it. Fire the payment event when someone clicks "join" rather than when the card clears, and every abandoned checkout becomes a member in the report.
How Adsu uses conversion tracking
Adsu treats each stage as its own conversion and only counts the ones it verified against your CRM and billing system: appointment booked, appointment showed, membership paid, and every renewal after. Adsu counts verified stages only: if a stage cannot be verified, it is not counted. Every report is one line per campaign per location.
Booked, showed and paid go back to Google as offline conversions and to Meta through the Conversions API. That gives Google and Meta conversions that mean a member rather than a form, without your team changing anything in the ad accounts. Adsu credits the last eligible touch inside the 30 days before the payment.
Questions, answered.
The Meta pixel on your website reports events like a page view or a form submission back to Meta, and the Conversions API sends events from a server or another system. For a gym, the pixel sees the form and nothing after it, so booked, showed and paid have to arrive through the Conversions API to count.
The stages that happen at the gym: a booked appointment, an attended appointment and a paid membership, each tracked as a separate event. A form fill is worth recording, but it should not be the conversion the platform optimizes for, because it is the easiest stage to produce and the furthest from money.
Because each platform counts the conversion it was given, usually the form, and credits itself for every one it thinks it influenced. Two platforms both claiming the same person, plus duplicate submissions and people who never booked, add up to a number that has nothing to do with paying members.
